[UPDATE/AUDIO] Nick Jonas on Shirtless Photo: ‘It’s Been a Pretty Hilarious Reaction’

We were lucky enough to chat with the 20-year-old about the infamous pic, how he got that body, and maybe most importantly … who took the photo?!

Nick tells us he went back and forth about posting the shirtless pic and is honestly shocked by the attention it ended up getting. “There’s a lot of people running around without their shirts on these days, so I just didn’t want to add to the noise, but I felt like as a diabetic … it’s twice as hard for us diabetics to stay in shape. I’ve met a lot of diabetics recently who have come to me and said, ‘Thank you for being so vocal about fitness and health’ because it’s helping them. I just wanted to give some inspiration to those people … It’s been a pretty hilarious reaction.”

But it wasn’t just health that inspired Nick. He also has a few love scenes with actress Isabel Lucas in the upcoming film, Careful What You Wish For, and “I wanted to look ok.”

Of all the crazy reactions and questions he’s received about the photo, Nick says the most-asked is: Who took it? ”That was the funniest part of the reaction … people trying to figure out who took it. There’s a self-timer setting on the camera.”

And not only is Nick’s body perfect, but so are his photo-taking abilities … he says he only snapped one pic before getting it just right. ”I’m not lying here … it was one picture … I debated [posting] it with my brothers and people in our band. I was like, ‘Should I do this?’ and they were like, ‘You have to!’ So I did it.”

But don’t get your hopes up for more, unfortunately. ”I don’t know if it’s something I’d do again,” he admits. “People will just have to go see the movie for more of that.”

Until then, fans can see Nick in the flesh and catch the Jonas Brothers as they tour America (find all the dates, venues, and ticket info HERE). Two upcoming shows are especially important — August 14 at Viejas Arena in San Diego and August 16 in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk — because they fall in between Joe‘s 24th birthday on August 15.

So far, Nick says, being on the road has been an incredible experience. “After three-and-a-half years away from touring, to have fans coming out like they are and supporting us feels amazing.”

[UPDATE] The Jonas Brothers are back in town

BANNER SITE

We were all so innocent back then. Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas — and, from the look of this snapshot, “Creepy Uncle Sean Jonas,” gripping Joe’s shoulder like I never wanted the moment to end. (Security alert!)

No one was hotter than N.J.’s JoBros that autumn, in the midst of a sold-out tween-dream tour and riding the sugar-pop surge of Disney Channel smash Camp Rock. The shaggy sibs owned the globe, and their media-heavy visit to Tampa Bay was swarmed by fans — not to mention an excitable scribe from the Times.

But then, like many child phenoms, everything went wrong for the Jonas Brothers, headline after dishy headline of Bieber-esque bad-boy behavior.

Oh, wait. No it didn’t.

Their worst crime? Joe Jonas broke Taylor Swift’s heart.

To which I say: Who hasn’t?

No, the Jonas guys merely grew up — with class. They lost some fizz, scrambled for reality-show work. Nick and Joe tried solo projects to middling success. Kevin is trying to make it as a reality show star. But through ups and downs, they’ve gone about their business without being total creeps.

Their current back-to-brotherly tour is a comeback shot, but they know how the game is played, so who knows? On a recent Bravo talk show, Nick said Justin Bieber — on a malcontent blitz of urinating in restaurant buckets and assaulting the paparazzi — needs to go through “a season of growth.” To which the host reminded the Jonas Brothers that they never acted like punks. Yep, that’s my boys.

The Jonas Brothers perform 7 p.m. Saturday at MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre at the Florida State Fairgrounds, 4802 U.S. 301 N, Tampa. $29.50-$79.50. (813) 740-2446.

[UPDATE] Jonas Brothers break for lunch in downtown Belmont

BANNER SITE

One of America’s most famous pop music trios dined alfresco at a Belmont restaurant Tuesday.
The Jonas Brothers sat around a table with friends around 1 p.m. at the String Bean Fresh Market and Deli on North Main Street.
More than a dozen fans gathered, hoping for snapshots with the group, which is known for a loyal following among children and teenagers.
Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas obliged autograph seekers and iPhones users who wanted to pose for pictures with the guys.
The group was scheduled to perform at Time Warner Cable Uptown Amphitheatre in Charlotte on Tuesday night.
Linda Smith, director of the child development program at First United Methodist Church in Belmont, heard from a friend the Jonas Brothers were in town.
She loaded 15 children — 14 girls and one boy — onto a bus and drove downtown in search of the stars.
They spotted the brothers and pulled up to the String Bean just as the Jonas Brothers were beginning their meal.
When the pop stars spotted their young fans, they walked over to pose for a picture with them.
“I said, ‘Oh (for) these girls, it would be the highlight of their summer,’” Smith said.
The Jonas Brothers have roots in Gaston County.
Their father, Kevin Jonas, was raised in Belmont. He graduated from South Point High School in 1984.
They have cousins who also live in Belmont. The Gazette reported in 2007 that their grandmother, Cecelia Lucas, lived in Mount Holly.
The Jonas Brothers’ visit marks the second celebrity sighting in Gaston County in less than a week.
Rock musician Dave Matthews was spotted July 23 buying coffee at Starbucks inside the Target store on Cox Road in Gastonia.

[UPDATE] Jonas Brothers aren’t worried they will outgrow their fans

BANNER SITE

Teen pop bands aren’t expected to be built for the long haul. The common thought is their audience will outgrow the group itself.

The Jonas Brothers – Nick, Joe and Kevin – are in their 20s and nearing that age when teen groups are supposed to fade from the scene, find new careers, or if the teen pop years were good to the group, kick back and live off of the considerable income they earned while driving fans into a frenzy with their albums and concerts.

Kevin Jonas, though, isn’t worried that the Jonas Brothers’ audience has or will desert the group.

“The fans that have been with us from those days are still growing up with us now,” he said in a late June phone interview.

“People think like ‘Oh, they have 13-to-16-year-old fans.’ Well, no, those 13-to-16-year-old fans from five years ago are now in their 20s,

18 to 24, and are all in college. So those fans are coming to the shows, still. Of course, we still have the younger and we have older (fans), but those (original) fans have stayed with us, so our core demo has really grown with our band.”

But if Jonas isn’t worried that the Jonas Brothers will outgrow its audience, the same can’t be said for the group’s record company, the Disney-owned Hollywood Records.

“We are getting older,” he said. “This will be my fourth year being married, and I’m going to be 26. The age demo that typically Disney and that group of people works with is a little bit younger.”

With that reality in mind, the Jonas Brothers recently parted ways with Disney and Hollywood Records. The group is unsigned at this point, but fans are starting to get a taste of the next album by the Jonas Brothers.

A first single, “Pom Poms,” was released in April, and to coincide with the summer tour, a second single, “First Time Love,” is hitting radio now.

Jonas said a release date for the new album will be announced soon, and he’s eager for fans to hear where the new music takes the group.

The first half dozen years of the siblings’ career took the Jonas Brothers to major heights.

[UPDATE] Pennlive: Jonas Brothers: Mixtape Festival

BANNER SITE

Day two’s lineup brought out a different crowd from day one.  It was split between the younger crowd who was there to see the Jonas Brothers, MKTO and Emblem3, and those trying to relive their youth with performances from Boyz II Men, TLC and New Kids on the Block.

Then, it was the younger crowd’s turn when the Jonas Brothers stepped out onto the stage.  The Jonas Brothers had a smaller following, but the younger ones kept the crowd lively during their performance.  The Jonas Brothers included a few new songs in their set, such as “What Do I Mean To You” and “First Time” and ended with “Burnin’ Up,” their lead single from their third album, “A Little Bit Longer.”

A personal favorite song from a group of Jonas Brothers fans at the show was “When You Look Me in the Eyes.”

“We all danced to that here in Hershey at their first tour,” Amanda Mielnicki, 14, of Roseland, N.J., said.
